MOFTA STUDENT FORCED TO USE GUN TO STOP AGGRESSIVE ACTION
Larry Smith, a January 2009 graduate of MOFTA’s Concealed Handgun License class needed to use his skills to combat a life-threatening situation.
Reports say Thomas Clark, LARRY SMITH and Christopher Frasure arranged to meet at Clark’s house so Smith could purchase two television sets and a Play Station. Once Frasure and Smith arrived at the agreed-upon location, the suspects jumped Smith and Frasure and attempted to steal their money.
Smith is a concealed carry permit holder and had his personal weapon with him. Smith was able to obtain his weapon and fire a single shot striking two of his attackers.
Larry was quick to notify MOFTA informing us that it was his tactical training he received from MOFTA that allowed him to successfully defend his life when assaulted by multiple assailants. MOFTA requires its students to perform a “retention drill” during the required course of fire on range day. Students learn how to deploy their gun from concealment and fire at arm’s length. This drill teaches our students to draw the gun, keeping it tucked in close to their body to keep the aggressor from obtaining the gun and firing two rounds into the target. Larry stated that it was this tactic that saved his life.
As a result of this incident, Larry’s two friends signed up for our Concealed Handgun License class in March and successfully completed the course.
Shooting a gun is one thing; learning techniques on deploying the gun in a variety of potentially deadly situations is another.
