“The Gun Is Civilization” by Benjamin Beckley

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force.  If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

A tool in the toolbox – Cover and Concealment

One of the tools that should be in the toolbox of those interested in the use of firearms for personal defense is the effective use of cover and concealment.  It is important to have a very clear understanding of what kinds of things will provide good cover, and also what things will provide the benefit of concealment.  To help with that understanding let’s define each.

THE TACTICAL RIFLE FOR HOME DEFENSE

db ar169 THE TACTICAL RIFLE FOR HOME DEFENSEWhen we think of owning a firearm for protection in the home, we usually think “handgun.”  No doubt about it, the handgun lying on the bedside table is handy and convenient.  We have a tactical light mounted on it and as we make our way down the hall past our children’s bedroom to investigate that “bump in the night.” The handgun is easy to maneuver as we do our room search.  There is little worry about exposing the barrel of a rifle or bumping into the wall.

What Caliber is Best for Self-Defense?

The old answer to this question was: “Any caliber that started with a 4.” This answer is no longer acceptable and I suspect it never was by those knowledgeable about handgun personal defense.

As of today, the most popular caliber among law enforcement is most likely the .40 caliber S&W round. Is it appropriate for our own personal defense? The answer is absolutely YES, but so is the less powerful 9mm Luger. The 9mm Luger has been around since 1904 and is the choice of the elite force known as the Navy SEALS. That is a pretty high endorsement of a caliber! It actually has been around longer than the very respected .45 ACP, which goes back to 1907. Read more on What Caliber is Best for Self-Defense?…
