Concealed Carry Training
Are you interested in getting your Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL), also known
as a concealed carry permit?. Or, are you looking to develop your basic handgun skills?
Then this class is for you.
MOFTA’s CHL class was designed by our two Sr. Instructors with over 40 years of law
enforcement experience, Over 36 years of firearms training experience and over 20 years
of carrying a concealed handgun as a private citizen. MOFTA has multiple instructors
of very diverse backgrounds. All of our instructors are certified by the National Rifle
Association and/or the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Commission. Our instructors
have “Walked the Walk” and can “Talk the Talk”, while keeping it interesting and
educational. We maintain a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment, with at least
three instructors presiding over all classroom and range sessions. Our Minimum 3-
Instructor per class policy gives our students the benefit of varying perspectives on issues
and questions. Our instructor staff includes former law enforcement officers, active and
retired military, private security, collegiate competition shooters, professional educators
and private citizen shooters/instructors.
MOFTA provides 14-hours of classroom and minimum of
3 hours of range time. Our classroom time runs Monday
through Thursday, 6:00 – 9:30 PM each evening. We are
off on Friday, and then we go to the range on Saturday.
You will be on the range for a minimum of 3-hours during
the day on Saturday and will shoot approximately 200
rounds. Your range window will be assigned in class. Our
classes are held in our classroom near the Anheuser Busch
Brewery area, just North of Schrock Rd. at 7065 Huntley Rd. We utilize a private
outdoor range in southern Delaware County approximately 10-minutes north of I-270 .
In The Classroom…
In the classroom we do cover the basic fundamentals and safety of handguns and
ammunition. We discuss the meaning and importance of “Concealed Carry”, we discuss
the moral and legal issues of use of lethal force and we discuss the “Defensive Mindset”.
We extensively review the Ohio Concealed Carry Law. We demonstrate the pros & cons
of most, if not all of, the common methods/styles of concealed carry. We demonstrate
and discuss the qualities of a personal defense handgun. We mix “Hands On” handling
of the handguns with lectures and discussions during the classroom sessions to keep
student interest. Handling the handguns in class, we go over proper sight picture and
alignment, the commonly accepted grips and shooting stances. We demonstrate and
practice proper gun handling and drawing techniques. We demonstrate and practice
reloading techniques and malfunction drills using plastic dummy ammunition provided
by MOFTA. We demonstrate and clarify the use of concealment and use of cover. We
finish our classroom sessions off with a written exam, which requires a score of 70% to
proceed to the range sessions. We also demonstrate the proper cleaning and care of your
handgun.
On the Shooting Range…
On the outdoor range you put your classroom experience
to use. We shoot rain or shine. So, dress accordingly. We
start out firing a 72 round practice “confidence building”
course that is not timed or scored. Then, we’ll progress to
the 78 round “Qualification Course”. The qualification
course is timed and scored on a Pass/Fail basis for each of
8-stages. During the practice course and the qualification
course you will be on the range, firing at distances from 3
feet up to 21 feet. In the practice course you will draw from a non-concealed holster, and
during the qualification course you will draw from a concealed holster. In the
qualification course you fire at single and multiple targets.
You will have fun, and we guarantee everybody will learn something.
Cost of Concealed Carry course is $160.00 (150.00 if paid in full online) per student.
Guns (rental) are available from MOFTA, for a small fee, if requested at time of
registration.
Concealed Carry class runs Monday through Thursday with class room training from
6:00 – 9:30pm and range training on Saturday for 3-hours.
