Defensive Handgun Level 1

Prerequisite – MOFTA CHL Class Preferred, but not required, if not – discuss experience and training with MOFTA prior to registration
Defensive Handgun Level 1 (DH-1) is the entry level class in our 6-tier progression towards a professional gunfighter skills set. DH-1 will strengthen the basic skills learned in your Basic Concealed Handgun License class and learn new skills and techniques to enhance your personal defense handgun tactics.
DH-1 is all range work, no classroom time. You will shoot a minimum of 600 rounds across one 10-hour shooting day (Saturday). 600 rounds will get you through the course, however you will have plenty of opportunity to shoot more, up to 700 or 800 rounds. So, bring what you want. All shooting will be on our metal plate silhouette targets. We will start with the basics; single shots on single targets, multiple shoots on single targets and single and multiple shots on multiple targets. We will work on malfunction drills and reload drills.
You will progress quickly from stationary shooting to shooting on the move. We will spend significant time on this very critical skill, so you will be comfortable shooting while moving to cover, to an escape route, to secure others (loved ones), etc… During these shooting on the move drills you will also practice malfunction and reloading skills while on the move.
You will learn proper use of cover techniques and verbalization skills. You will be introduced to close quarters shooting technique, shooting in close proximity with other shooters – stationary and while on the move. You will be introduced to partner techniques and tactics.
We will mix in some friendly competitions as single shooters and teams. You will leave this day with a sense of accomplishment and the true feeling that you have improved your shooting skills and feel your confidence with your handgun building.
A good holster, belt, spare ammo device carrier (magazine pouch), at least two spare ammo devices (magazine or speed loader, two or more is recommended) eye and ear protection is mandatory. Unless prior arrangements are made with MOFTA, you will need to provide your own hearing and eye protection.
To ensure a good instructor to student ratio this class is limited to 15-students.
Additional classes may be added if interest merits.
Class fee is $150.00 ($140.00 if paid in full online) per student, with a $75.00 non-refundable deposit required to hold your slot in the class. Balance due at the beginning of class on Saturday. You must supply your own ammunition (minimum of 600 rounds, you will have ample opportunity to shoot up to seven hundred rounds, or more) Any hard ball full metal jacket, such as Winchester’s: White Box” ammunition is acceptable. No ammunition will be provided by MOFTA.
Class will be held from 08:30 to 19:30 (7:30 PM) with a 1-hour break for lunch. Arrival time is 08:00 Class will be held on Saturday at a private outdoor range in southern Delaware County, about 10-minutes north of I-270. We will shoot rain or shine, so come with proper clothing for any possible weather. You will get detailed directions with your enrollment confirmation. Come ready to have a good time, learn good techniques and tactics and do lots of shooting.
